Ok, you can never really recover from an eating disorder; your relationship with food will never be completely normal again. That's a fact. You cannot even achieve a semi-normal relationship with foos without medical help. That's a fact too.
But there are also many ways in which you can help yourself get better. Here are some ways to cope I found extremely useful.
1) Start eating again gradually, without being forced into eating calorie high foods that will probably scare the bejezus out of you. So at the beginning of recovery, if you don't feel confortable eating a large steak with chips and mayo, don't! Start by eating plenty of fruit-bananas are the best- and by eating things like pasta with tomato sauce or salad WITH olive oil. Starting slowly will help you cope better with havingto ingest calories again.
2) If it helps you feel in control, by all means do exercise-not too much though! and hour 3 times a day is plenty.
3) If you feel tempet to "purge", put some of that disgusting bitter anti nail biting nail varnish. It will taste so disgusting when your fingers are in your mouth that you won't have enough time to stimulate your gag reflex, you'll just want to get rid of the taste as quickly as you can!
4) Be careful not to become overweight after recovery, or you will feel so dissatisfied with your body image that you will be tempetd to fast again.
5) Take plenty of vitamins and supplements.
6) Use sugar insted of artificial sweetener; it's a small change in your daily routine, but it's such a big step!
I hope you find these tips helpful.
